I wish I could just put gifs from Ong-Bak in the panels and just use those for the fighting. TWC image Kinuko stays in for the night. Also I'm still open for commissions, don't be afraid to put me to work. I really don't want to go back to retail.

Ouch! That hurts just looking at it. (Also, next to last panel misspelled strength.)
Ed8 Friday, the 4th of October at 12:04 AM, 2013 edit delete reply
Also, shame on all who didn't think Kinuko knew exactly what she was doing.
Guesticus Saturday, the 5th of October at 1:38 AM, 2013 edit delete reply
Like with Cade, had faith in Nuko that this would not be a one-sided match (unfortunately she has already been destined to lose :()
Ed8 Saturday, the 5th of October at 7:37 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
Maybe not. There's no law that says this has to go down to the cliche last matchup. I would be pleasantly surprised if Kinuko wins and it ends after 4 bouts.
Guesticus Saturday, the 5th of October at 8:35 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
Don't see why there still can't be 5 matches, just don't see why it has to be a "Best Out of 5" tournament
Guesticus Saturday, the 5th of October at 8:43 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
Oh yeah, also hoping Nuko wins :D

Things just got a bit more interesting.

Is that sound effect what I think it is? Did the big girl flex against the hold so hard she popped a tendon in her elbow, or dislocated something? If so, ouch!

Just wanted to drop by and say that I love the comic, been following for a while now. I love the look in her eye panel 4. Very determined and very scary. I don't think she had that look before.

Don't care how strong you are. I know some people who can purposely dislocate their shoulders, but your elbow...

Sure Kinuko may not be able to match Kavla's strength, but can Kavla match Kinuko's agility and knowledge? Me thinks not. That move in the realm of professional wrestling is referred to as a [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_wrestling_holds#Cross_armbar"]cross arm breaker[/url]. It can also be applied legitimately and effectively in MMA as well. It can exert a lot of transverse force on the elbow joint, usually resulting in a quick submission once fully applied.

Not sure if the codes even work in this comment section, but you need to use [a href] instead of [url] (and use the >< signs, not ][)

I tried HTML codes first, but that did not work, so I tried BBCode markup, but that did not work either, so, having run out of ideas, I gave up and left it.

she's a little low down on the arm, especially vs someone taller than her. usually you want to grab below the wrist and plant it on your chest, not at eye level so that the elbow is on your hips (which you use to hyperextend the elbow). Never seen that (figure 4?) used on that arm lock before, I'd have to try it out to be sure… but I'm pretty sure that's just the wrong grip in that situation.

little tidbit too, when you're actually doing that arm bar it can be risky in a real fight to put your achilles close to their mouth, so if you can't get under the jawbone like that put your sole down on their neck instead…

in this case looks like she was trying to clamp down on the lock as they were falling, so I can forgive the leg position a little more.
Guesticus Saturday, the 5th of October at 1:33 AM, 2013 edit delete reply
Couple points:

Kev is much bigger than Nuko, that's why she has Kev's fist against her eye
Nuko has her knee's wrapped around Kev's neck, not her achilles those are wrapped in the bandges)

This is like watching a fight betwen Rey Mysterio Jr and Kevin Nash, which is actually an even matchup when you consider the individuals :D

The ogre is only a head taller than nuku from the only page we get solid perspective on their relative size from 77 chapter 11
(the first one i.e. /comics/355).
That is certainly not a big enough size difference to require alterations be made to the optimal positioning. In reference to the same, the elbow should be on the hip joint which puts the achilles tendon near the face, as you see correctly in her initial placement during the jumping scissors take-down thing.

found myself a little interested to find some good examples:
http://www.mmamania.com/2011/2/9/1944963/ultimate-submissions-breaking-down-the-the-arm-bar

while not perfect (Because obviously MMA has some rules to protect the fighters that actual combat would not have), you can see a few examples of some very similar arm bars.

Loving Kev's face in panel 3 :D
Bet this has never happened to her before, not since she was a baby at any case :P

I still find it curious that people continue to try and put real life logic in a FANTASY based webcomic. #1. Kav seems to be a half oger type with muscles on her muscles...if a simple arm bar could hurt one such as her then its kinda weird. #2. This is fantasy, logic plays no part in it...so stop trying to make things make sense.
Guesticus Saturday, the 5th of October at 8:38 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
Doesn't matter how strong you, how many muscles on muscles you have: Your. Arm. Does. NOT!!. Bend. Like. THAT!!!!
Dis077 Saturday, the 5th of October at 9:29 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
She also seems to be of the earth/rock type...and I, dont care how strong you are...you try pulling down a solid rock pillar....your going to lose.

it's cheap writing to always use deus ex machina. There is no reason why a fantasy can't have it's own set of rules and "reality" that differ (and overlap with) our own in various ways. Just because there is another race of muscled humanoids does not mean that they automatically get a pass to ignore how that strength would actually play out in that universe.
Also if you're going to base everything on the human form there will be logical parallels because the inherent weakness and strength of the human body (i.e. biomechanics) will overlap.
Ed8 Saturday, the 5th of October at 7:36 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
It would depend on whether the nonhumans were evolved from humans, or form the same line as hunmans, or from a different line (convergent evolution?) or magically created from scratch at some point. There's not neccssarily any reason to assert that their joint, ligaments, etc are identical to humans' just because of their outward appearance they may be constructed however the author wishes - WoG supersedes real-world biology. If the reptilian-based Dragongirls can have mammalian boobs, then anything goes. (And I, for one, am very gad that they do) Let's concentrate on the important aspects of fantastic anatomy here: Dragongirlboobies!
Dis077 Saturday, the 5th of October at 9:41 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
So what your trying to say is that just because Kav has a humanlike body...she would ALSO have humanlike weaknesses? I'm going to use warcraft as an example...Orcs vs Humans, if a human of any size were to armbare and orc, I cant honestly say it would work out very well for the human. That is my point about logic in fantasy. Differnt world, differnt rules. Dont put our rules into someone else's world.
someone Monday, the 7th of October at 12:31 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
When you use a humanoid form and you draw out the same muscle attachment points and bone structure, yes it does mean that humanoid has the same biomechanics limitations. It doesn't say whether the tendons or the bones will be first to break, nor how much strength the race has of a given size (dwarves strength for instance), but it does mean the elbow joint is going to be a weak point. Without a vastly different elbow joint design (which the art makes clear ogres do NOT have) it is going to continue to be a valid weak point. Now whether you are capable of capitalizing on it as a human is another thing, you can muscle out of that lock if you see it early enough and are stronger
Dis077 Monday, the 7th of October at 5:18 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
Which has been answered, Kinuko is NOT stronger than Ka'vala. And from what Ive seen...her elbow is not exactly bent...it still seemes flexed...so the arm bar did not work.
Guesticus Saturday, the 5th of October at 8:40 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
Is it just me who thinks it would be cool (but freaky) if the 'SLPOP' is the sound of another arm about to grow from Kev's elbow?
Ogre Sunday, the 6th of October at 2:56 AM, 2013 edit delete reply
I've realized that the thing that bothers me most about this page is that Kev was pulled off her feet way too easily. She was in a fairly well balanced stance and given her size and weight advantage she really shouldn't have just toppled that neatly.
Adder Monday, the 7th of October at 7:32 AM, 2013 edit delete reply
Probably has more to do with her legs around kev's neck. The reflex to get away from pressure on your windpipe is very hard to overcome. I'm also guessing this is a situation where kev is used to her durability and strength being enough, so she hasnt had the training to resist that technique
Skydron Monday, the 7th of October at 1:24 AM, 2013 edit delete reply
I chuckle each time I see that expression on the big muscular girl's face as she goes for a tumble. It's like it's a surprise that she is suddenly off her feet.

Also... I dunno why she's putting so much emphasis on how strong she is. Bigger isn't better in a fight. What good is all that strength if you can't catch your opponent? 9 out of 10 in a fight between two equally skilled fighters, the one with more agility will come out on top.
Guesticus Wednesday, the 9th of October at 12:23 AM, 2013 edit delete reply
Zack Tilly! Doesn't matter how strong you are if you can't get your mitts on the wirey little runt that's crawling all over you or dancing just out of reach
