So there you have it, they be Half-Elemental. Don't worry we'll expand on this info in a few pages. In D&D the closest thing would by a Genasi, but our Half-Elementals are significantly different. TWC image, still Neph. Come back Friday for the continuation and a new donation wallpaper.

Is Cade just that bad (as in, the daggers are falling short without her interference), or just that stupid? (To not realize that if the arrows are essentially enhanced by the wind, his daggers have the opposite.)

...Probably a bit of both. :P

He just made the mistake of announcing his sneak attack, thus negating the 'sneak' part of it

Probably a bit of neither
Ed8 Wednesday, the 28th of August at 9:25 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
Not really a mistake, it's a side reference or joke based on the fact that in roleplaying you have to announce a sneak attack - OotS does it all the time, which Cade is allowed to do with no penalty due to his 4th-wall breaking ability, which he then subsequently demonstrates again by referencing LotR. I'm assuming he's allowed to use his special ability twice in one round.

Sooner or later he's going to catch on that ranged weapons aren't going to work on her. Barring him producing a trebuchet, anyway.

SHHHH!!!! Don't spoil his ultimate weapon!

Cade forgot the first rule of sneak attack... You don't talk about sneak attack! Bad pun but it had to be said and got out of the way. :P
Guesticus Tuesday, the 27th of August at 8:58 AM, 2013 edit delete reply
Agreed, on all 3 counts :P
Guesticus Tuesday, the 27th of August at 8:58 AM, 2013 edit delete reply
Make that: "all _4_ counts"
Ogre Tuesday, the 27th of August at 2:22 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
He also forgot that the only time you should shout "Sneak attack!" is if you're a female human rogue who's armed with a bow.

Yeah! You tell 'em!

Even if he threw them before he yelled his sneak attack, doesn't really matter when she can bat them out of the air at will with the wind. Apparently she's starting to be able to follow his erratic run pattern. The nicks will come first and next will be Cade turning into more of a pincushion.

With regards to the author's commentary, actually the 3.0 Manual of the Planes had Half-Elemental templates.
Kreldor Tuesday, the 27th of August at 10:14 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
You can also find half-elementals and other "half" templates in the 3.5 Monster Manuel.
Ogre Wednesday, the 28th of August at 12:55 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
Actually, the 3.0/3.5 Monster Manual's half templates were only Half-Celestial, Half-Fiend, and Half-Dragon. Subsequent books saw the introduction of half-golems, half-plants, half-trolls, half-undead, and half-kitchen sink.
Ed8 Wednesday, the 28th of August at 9:28 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
The problem with playing a character who's half kitchen sink is that the rest of the party never remembers to bring you along. In fact, they bring everything but...you.

There's a lot of templates, halves, quarters and the like in D&D.
I believe the total number of Creature Compendiums in AD&D alone was 30 or so. Since you had a manual for every setting it seems like.
But the term/idea of Half Elemental folks isn't new in Fantasy/Manga/Comics.
But you're right in 3.0 and 3.5 you could be a half elemental... or a Half Golem.

Oh good, a "LOTR" reference. [sarcasm]We haven't had nearly enough of those recently.[/sarcasm]
Ed8 Thursday, the 29th of August at 11:09 PM, 2013 edit delete reply
As far as I can recall, this is the only LotR reference in this comic so far. [sarcasm] So your comment totally makes sense - one reference (to an epic series of movies/books that pretty much everyone has seen or read) in FOUR YEARS of comics is way way too many [/sarcasm]
