Sneak attack! With this page I found out drawing a geysers is kinda hard. TWC image is Alluria as asked, I wanted to wait till her "aquatic" nature was more revealed.

Hmmm...what happens to a Water Witch (Water Wizard? Aquamage? whatever) when someone, for example, breathes fire on them?

You know, how in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrows, you can get Excalibur, but it's still stuck in the stone, so you have to swing the whole thing? I expect we will be seeing a reprise of that, in about three seconds, but with an ice boulder...

Wasn't this round supposed to be martial combat? As in no magic, meaning this would count as cheating?
Either way Loth's gonna be pissed.

from dictionary.com:
marĀ·tial
adjective
1. inclined or disposed to war; warlike
2. of, suitable for, or associated with war or the armed forces

Therefore, if they use magic in war here, which I'm quite sure they do, then there is no reason why it would not be acceptable in this contest.

I'd have to agree with Fenoth. If this is a "martial combat" competition, as the arena announcer stated, her opponent not employing a martial "art", such as a hand to hand skill, or weapon demonstration, would usually constitute cheating. Of course, shame on Loth for not asking for the rules. *shrug*

It also doesn't help when the people hosting the games are out to get them too.

I really don't see why that would be. Mages fight in war. Offensive Magic (as opposed to Healing Magic or some other type) is their Martial Art. Now, I could see where, for example, using Illusion spells might be considered cheating, as it's not strictly Offensive Magic, it's subterfuge, but what she's doing would, I think, be very typical of what a Mage would do in battle. Contrary to what the LoTR movies would have us believe, if you are in a battle, and you have the ability to shoot fireballs and lightning bolts, *that is what you should be doing*, not swinging a pointy stick around. If this were hand-to-hand combat, that's what they would have named the competition, but "Martial" is very general: Swordsmen should be using swords, Archers should be fighting with arrows, Mages should be casting spells, Monks should be punching and kicking, Rogues should be backstabbing or tossing daggers or whatever - to each his or her own Martial Art.

In regards to LOTR Peter Jackson said he didn't believe in magic. Which is why the battle between Gandalf and Dooku was a force/playground pushing battle.
Also probably because he wanted it to be light on obvious CGI. Since he was spending huge chunks of cash on other things.

And a pilot should strafe ground combatants or drop bombs on them.

I see points on both sides of this.
"Martial Arts" generally refers to hand-to-hand combat, and obviously Loth expects "Martial Combat" would be a battle involving hand-held close combat weapons.
Even the announcer made a comment to that effect last page: "some would say [she's] a poor choice for martial combat."
But, as Ravenwald says, it is better to know the rules, since it seems in this arena they are defining "martial" to be "whatever works for you is fine by us."

Alluria agrees with me. That is all that matters.
